4WD OFF-ROAD BUSINESS TRAINING

About: 4WD Off-Road Business Training

Our 4WD courses equip trainees with the knowledge and skills to drive a 4WD effectively and safely over varied terrain as would be required in most off road workplaces under the full ‘best practice’ guidelines.

 

Our courses have an emphasis on accident prevention and driving techniques that minimise negative impact upon the environment.

 

Courses are 1-3 days in duration, include a combination of theory and practical elements and can be Unit Standard or Competency-based, depending on your requirements.

Our courses can cover all of the following:

  • Preparing a vehicle for use Off-Road and Post Off-Road Checks

  • Safety requirements

  • Operating a 4WD vehicle in an off-road situation

  • Driver ability and awareness and passenger safety

  • Vehicle designs and operating systems including current vehicle technology

  • Stability dynamics

  • Explain driving hazards and risk reduction strategies, techniques and responses to driving hazards

  • Hazard identification and safety assessment specific to terrain

  • Terrain formation and composition recognition including driving techniques

  • Negotiating uneven terrain, hill ascents, descents, traverse driving, and related difficulties

  • Recovery from a stall while climbing

  • Water crossings

  • Understanding vehicle movement utilising traction, momentum, gravity and centrifugal force combinations

  • Recovery techniques and equipment winching and towing using ropes, strops and snatch

  • Towing trailers both on and off-road including towing of loads

  • Defensive driving and driver awareness

  • Driving on unsealed roads

  • Fit and remove vehicle chains

  • Driving on snow
