Bring your own 4WD vehicle along, or hire a vehicle from our team (at an additional cost).

Course Outcomes:

By participating in our 4WD training course you will:

  • Gain confidence in your ability to navigate challenging, real-world off-road terrain

  • Understand the principles of safe and responsible 4WD operation

  • Select and use low-range gearing and appropriate drive modes correctly

  • Develop a deeper understanding of your vehicle’s features, capabilities and limitations

  • Assess terrain and choose suitable lines for obstacles and uneven ground

  • Safely ascend and descend steep terrain using correct techniques

  • Identify hazards and make informed decisions in off-road environments

  • Understand tyre selection and tyre pressure adjustment for varying conditions

Who is this course suitable for?

This course is suitable for beginners and drivers with limited off-road experience who want to build confidence and learn correct 4WD techniques in a safe guided environment. 

Do I need prior 4WD experience?

No prior experience is required. This course is designed to accommodate first time 4WD users through to drivers looking to refresh their skills.

Is my vehicle suitable?

Participants who wish to use their own vehicle must bring a road-legal 4WD vehicle with low range gearing (4 low). If you are unsure whether your vehicle is suitable, please contact our team.

Is there any special equipment I need?

No specialised equipment is required. Our specialist trainers are equipped with all necessary equipment should it be required.

Is this a practical or classroom-based course?

This course is primarily practical and hands-on, but has a short interactive classroom session at the beginning the day.

Will my vehicle be damaged?

Our courses are designed to minimise risk. Driving is controlled and instructor-led with techniques focused on protecting the vehicle. However, off-road driving does carry inherent risks.

What will I learn on the day?

You will learn 4WD fundamentals, terrain assessment, correct use of low range, tyre types and pressures and safe driving techniques.

What should I bring with me?

You should bring suitable outdoor clothing, covered shoes, food & drink for the day + any personal medication.​

Are passengers allowed?

If they are non-driving, passengers are able to attend for free.

Is food provided?

Morning tea is provided only.

What happens if it is bad weather?

Courses run in most weather conditions. If conditions are unsafe, the course may be rescheduled.

Are my tyres suitable?

All must be fitted with tyres (including the spare) that are in good condition with no cuts, sidewall damage or structural defects. Tyres must have adequate tread remaining. All-Terrain (AT) tyres are recommended, but highway tyres are acceptable in good weather conditions.
